School Strikes for Climate Justice

Beginning in May of 2019, I began photographing the youth organized climate strikes in New York City. Spencer Berg, a dear friend of mine was one of the principal organizers of the strikes with the group Fridays For Futures, NYC. I attended the strikes with him in an attempt to document this incredible display of collective action entirely organized by New York City high school students, mostly attending public school. The strikes took place beginning in early spring 2019, through to the fall of 2020, and after a lul in activity due to COVID-19, have resumed once again. A strike in September 2019 drew 300,000 participants. The photos I took were used by the youth organizers for social media posts to spread information about the strikes and when to attend.
